ベイシー伯爵の1939年から50年の音源からセレクト。ブルース・ナンバーばかりをピック・アップした作品集で約半分にジミー・ラッシングのボーカルがフィーチャーされている。もちろんバンド・メンバーはレスター・ヤングやフレディ・グリーン、ジョー・ジョーンズやドン・バイアスなどなどのベイシー楽団フルキャストで輝かしいソロも聴ける。ベイシーって偉人らしいけど、ＣＤいっぱいあってどれから聴いたらいいかわからんし、ビッグ・バンドはなんかみんな同じに聴こえるしなー、なんて人にはまず本盤を薦める。
